
The Course
This workshop guides interpreters and interpreter educators in the exploration of the intersection of somatics and interpreting, focusing on the application of embodied practices in the field of interpretation. Participants will learn how to integrate somatic techniques into their interpreting work, enhancing their ability to convey meaning and connect with consumers on a deeper level.
This will include a combination for group and individual meetings as well as synchronous and asynchronous means for engaging with the materials and one another.

What you will learn
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of the principles and concepts of somatics and how they can be applied in the context of interpreting.
- Develop practical skills to incorporate somatic practices into the interpreting process, including body awareness, grounding, and breathwork.
- Enhance communication effectiveness and presence as interpreters through the integration of somatic techniques into their professional practice.

When is the registration deadline?
- This is a self-paced training, so you can register whenever you like.
- I will be submitting CEUs for processing on a quarterly basis.
Can I get this all done in a weekend?
- A great question... no, this is a self-paced class in the sense that you can do it on your own time.
- However, the content will be released on a weekly basis over about 12 weeks.
- I really want you to have time to absorb and percolate with the materials and practices.
- Ideally, you would dedicated about 1-2 hours each week with the content and practices.

Curriculum

Amy Kroll is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This professional studies program is offered for 2.9 CEUs at the Some Content Knowledge Level.


Your instructor
Amanda R. Smith is a professor of interpreting studies at Western Oregon University, where she uses her 25 years of professional experience to teach, coach, and inspire pre-interpreting students, working professionals, and interpreter educators. Over the years, Amanda has studied the application of reflective practices in the field of interpreting. Additional areas of research interest include the development of interpreting skills in students and newer interpreters. This year, she has added professional coaching to her skillset - through formal training and supervised practice. When she's not teaching or coaching, she is likely to be painting and/or leading reflective art experiences.
